History and Tradition of Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council

CTFAC was chartered by the State of Texas as a non-profit corporation under IRS Code 501 (c) 3, on July 15, 1980, as an outgrowth of the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce (CofC) Cultural Affairs Committee, organized by local attorney and cattle rancher, Don Coan, then CofC President. Selected by Mr. Coan, local community leader Connie Birdsong organized 70 charter members to underwrite the costs of the first CTFAC event. For fourteen years she continued to lead and develop CTFAC into a viable organization. Today, Ms. Birdsong remains an ardent supporter, the 70 charter members are still the core of the council's membership and CTFAC is a fine art event leader in the eight counties it serves, officially known as the Cross Timbers Basin.

CTFAC's mission, accomplished through creative partnerships with art and on art groups, is to "make accessible, support, promote, increase and present fine art events that inspire, educate and entertain the citizens of the Cross Timbers Basin region."

Traditionally, CTFAC presents Ft. Worth Symphony Orchestra concerts, plays by acclaimed theatre groups and recitals by exceptional artists. Also, CTFAC sponsors sixth grade field trips to metroplex museums, public school Art-in- Education programs, and an eight-county school program that offers exceptional art programs to rural schools.

CTFAC's office, located in the City Parks and Recreation Building at 378 W. Long in Stephenville, Texas, is in Erath County and is within 60 miles of seven other counties it serves: Bosque, Comanche, Eastland, Hamilton, Hood, Palo Pinto and Somervell. The office is open M-F, 9 A.M. to 12 Noon.
