GonzaloAccording to record, among the 1500 people, besides the 300 soldiers that explored parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, 1540-1542, at least one family came. Gonzolo and his father are shepherds of the 1,000 sheep driven behind the army for food. Also, were extra horses and cattle. The story follows historically the route of the explorers, and the incidents described in the report to the Spanish king. Gonzolo is a fictional character, but his adventures are real. Dr. Clendenin wrote this story especially for the many children of Spanish and Mexican descent who get the other side of the picture--that of their forefathers being the bad guys in the fight for Texas.
